Frequently Asked Questions

What is a first session like?

A first counselling session is an opportunity to get to know one another. You can share your story in a safe, non-judgemental setting. Your counsellor may ask you some questions to clarify or to get to know more about you. You may ask your counsellor some questions as well. The goal of this first session is to build a trusting relationship that sets the foundation for future sessions. It’s normal to feel nervous, however most clients say after their first session, they feel heard and a sense of relief for having started the process!

How many sessions will I require?

This depends on the individual and what their personal goals are for counselling and what treatment modalities the client and counsellor decide on together. For some individuals it may be 6-8 sessions and for others it may be 1-2 months or longer. This is something that can be discussed with the counsellor and agreed upon together and can be re-evaluated as you move forward.

How often should I go to counselling?

Many people choose to come once a week for a period of time. However, frequency depends on therapy goals, finances and your own schedule and availability. How often you come can be decided upon together with your counsellor.

How does payment work?

Payment can be made with a credit card, an e-transfer or cash. A receipt will be e-mailed to you immediately after payment. Direct billing is available for most extended health insurance plans as well as for clients covered by ICBC or Veteran's Affairs Canada.
